Some would ask the secret to great wealth. Others would seek to learn how to live a long and healthy life without aging.

A select few might want to know how to motivate themselves and others. If we acquire the skills to motivate ourselves and others then we have the basic tools to acquire almost everything else that a good life requires. It might be disappointing when the old man at the top of the mountain answers simply, “To know thyself and be kind.”

These are wise words and hold much truth, but it’s a pretty broad answer. To motivate or be motivated requires learning and dedication. Motivation is a skill that can be easily learned if you possess dedication. Yet, it takes an honest effort to remain dedicated to anything you really want, allowing enough time to see within yourself, the ultimate transformation.

We use motivation daily at home and at work. Subconsciously we’re striving to motivate ourselves and those we come in contact with.

We use our innate motivation skills to acquire the results we seek. We use these skills on our spouse, our co-workers and our friends everyday to get our way. It’s a delicate balance between communication and persuasion. Maybe the sage knew what he was talking about when he advised to know yourself and be kind to others. It’s long been said that we attract more flies with honey than vinegar.

Expect the best and settle for nothing less. If you’re doing the task or someone else is doing the task for you, insist on the best results or at the very least demand improvement over the last task. Pride should always motivate you to do your very best.

Stay happy and productive and you’ll stay motivated long enough to reap the rewards of a well deserved transformation.

We become what we think. This quote has been proven over and over again. If we perceive something bad is going to happen to us, many times it does.On the contrary, if we believe something good is going to happen this often becomes true as well.

Science has affirmed the link between positive effect and its impact on an individual’s motivation and performance.

If we expect the best or we expect the worst, we’re usually not disappointed. Each time we perceive a positive thought it increases our own perceptions of positive expectancy. For motivation to last it requires constant thinking with daily positive reinforcement.

Surround yourself with positive affirmations and you will initiate change in yourself, your life and in the lives of others. Positive thoughts enable you to achieve self-confidence and self esteem.

With these qualities you can motivate and inspire yourself. More important, believe in yourself and others will believe in you too.

Can you remember your childhood days? During those times, nothing yet seemed complicated – all we had to think about were crayons, cookies, or Santa Claus. We didn’t care about the things we didn’t know because we were just too oblivious of the things that might bother us. But when reality hits, life can seem like a roller coaster ride.

As we grow older, we get anxious with the things that surround us – life and death, loving and parting, success and failure, to name a few. We find that almost everyday, we are obliged to be concerned about people or events.

Nevertheless, always keep this in mind: Don’t take things as if they are responsible for the way you feel. Events or situations do not trouble you. How you look at them does.

If you miss those carefree days, you just have to look back at how you used to view things then, and you will know what to do now. Here’s a “how to” guide to make sure you won’t lose your way:

Cherish the simple things: Trust in the power of a smile or laughter, a kiss or a hug. Believe in kindness, honesty, dreams, and imagination. Living positively is the first step to becoming happy.

Loosen up: Laugh at your mistakes. You might remember the time when you were delivering a speech and your mind went completely blank right in the middle of delivering it. It’s embarrassing. But most likely, your audience will forget about it in a day or two. We all mess up occasionally. The good thing is that people tend to forget such situations.

Surround yourself with what you love: Get a pet. Watch old family movies. Keep away from those that drag you down. If that high-paying job makes you sulk at the thought of having to go to work, find a job you like first before quitting. If some people force you to comply even if you think of doing otherwise, stay away from their company.

Don’t put off: Go on that trip. Take your Master’s. You’ll never know the extent of your life. Do something, while you can.

Don’t push yourself too hard trying to please everyone: You just can’t. And it never seems to be worth it anyway. When you want to make somebody’s day, start with your loved ones.

Keep fit: Be that attractive person you always picture yourself to be. Cherish your health. It’s the best way of showing you are putting your best face forward.

Do not assume: And don’t worry about not getting the job you want because you might mess up at the interview. It’s good to expect the worst; but don’t end up expecting only the worst.

Alter your way of thinking: When you’re being ridiculed, criticized about your family background, or condemned for past mistakes, put on deaf ears. Don’t believe everything you hear. You know yourself better than everybody else does. Never wallow in self-pity.

Remember, it’s not worth getting upset over things just because it’s how most people would react when faced with the same situation. When you find yourself being negative – angry, down, jealous, etc. – you also unknowingly drain your energy and enthusiasm. You just have to try keeping these negative feelings in the low, because giving in to these emotions will make you unreasonable, and you might end up making bad decisions.

Happiness is always in your grasp. You can attain it, it’s just a matter of believing in yourself. More important, take the time to take it easy and enjoy life.

Many of us have goals and dreams we envision for our lives, but without self-confidence, we’ll get nowhere with them.

Building self confidence will give you the motivation needed to achieve everything you want out of life.

Here are a few exercises you can try each day to help boost your self-confidence.

Start a journal. A confidence-boosting journal should contain positive things you did for that day. Most people accomplish a lot of little things in the span of 24 hours, but don’t really think of them as achievements.

By putting them in a journal each day, you see how they build up over the weeks, months, and years. You might start with the simple things – like five ways you paid a random act of kindness to a stranger or three things you did that helped further your career.

It can be something as simple as holding the door open for an elderly person or reading a book about saving for retirement. And to make it more interesting, why not associate a colour to each random act of kindness? For example:

If you did something that sparked someones passion, check Red.

If you did something that made someone feel happy, check Orange.

If you did something from ‘gut instincts’ to help someone, check Yellow.

If you did something loving and kind for someone, check Green.

If you did something with faith and trust for another, check Blue.

If you did something to lift the spirits of someone else, check Indigo.

If you did something creative for someone, check Purple.

As you look back on your entries of positive accomplishments, it will motivate you to achieve more and you’ll be able to identify areas in your life where there is too much or too little of the colourful activity.

List your goals in baby steps. Instead of setting a goal to accomplish the whole thing at once, try breaking it down into tiny steps that you need to meet each day. Each time you get to cross off the little steps, you gain more confidence and you’ll empower yourself to reach the next step until you’ve achieved the primary goal.

Remember its ok to ‘Go for Gold’. The key to achieving your goals often requires baby steps helping you gain the esteem you’re lacking.

Read inspirational quotes. With so much on the market today, search the internet or purchase a book with lots of inspirational quotes about confidence or self-esteem. Read one quote everyday and see if you can apply it to your own life. This is a great way to avoid feeling ‘Blue’.

The key to feeling confident is finding balance in all you do.

So why not enjoy the experience and build your confidence, one colour at the time.

The past few months have been a roller coaster for many. Women and men are facing uncertain economic times, wrestling with the fate of their future.

From the many women I speak with to on a regular basis, and listening to their stories, it has occurred to me a shift is taking place. Many women today are being put in the position of being the financial bread winners and many are not enjoying the long arduous task which seems to have no end in sight.

Gone are the days where a dependable pay check was secure, or was it?

Regardless of complacency and dependance of job security, today the choice is simple. Your either in this for the long hall or not.

Consider this, no more hair and nails for the time being, shopping whims and shopping sprees, high end or bargain basement prices, social calls or entertaining, this is crunch time and every decision you make today counts.

It’s time to review some characteristics to help stop the madness. Instead, visualize and affirm where you stand. This is where the colour Purple (Violet) comes in.

Purple, the highest colour vibration in the spectrum is the most spiritual of colours. It’s the energy of self-transformation.

Self-transformation may very well be what is necessary to manage our way through today and the months or years ahead. Characteristically speaking, this means we must look to a new confidence and dignity, overcome self-pity and other barriers to happiness.

As women of courage, awaken to your unique capabilities and be confident in yourself. How? Using your highest sense of personal integrity for yourselves, family and friends.

Self-confidence makes self-dignity possible. Armed with such knowledge will assist you to see beyond obstacles. Obstacles are opportunities and provide us with life lessons.

The colour purple represents spiritual maturity, a necessary colour if your struggling to get through the day. Use the fine energy of purple to uplift the very essence of your life. The tireless work of purple awakens the senses and opens the gateway to faith and perception, in other words, your reality.

Perfect happiness is realized within. Allow yourself a moment to get to this place of comfort. Enjoy the incredible feeling of peace when you achieve this realization.

Your imagination is there for you to create a life filled with happiness and joy. So have a little faith in the colour purple and remember, if you can visualize it, you can do it!

In today’s complex world, it is challenging for women to project a clear clothing message. A woman often bridges several worlds, functioning in a professional role, as well as being a wife and mother.

Often times women must choose clothing that carries them through several roles, sometimes in a very short time span, throughout the day. Colour can really save the day especially when you need a pick-me-up!

More importantly, colour choices should be given due consideration in a woman’s daily routine for keeping in tune with her inner balance and harmony. Timeless, classical elegance suits all women.

Building the finest wardrobe often means adding one garment at the time. Every wardrobe has a beginning to which there is no end. You always add to your closet, tweaking and adjusting what goes in and what comes out.

Basic wardrobe building starts with your choice of a primary colour such as black brown or navy. Next, add a colour such as white or cream (whichever looks best against your skin tone) for your secondary colour choice. Select camel or grey as your tertiary wardrobe decisions and choose a splash of colour, red or magenta, as the final addition in the ‘new you’ wardrobe.

Carefully select and coordinate a few basic garments by choosing solid colours that you can mix and match with solid or multi coloured accessories.

Here is a simple list of the top ten garments to include in your wardrobe after the basics:

For summer, a light coloured two-piece suit, a darker colour two-piece suit for winter

One solid colour blazer and one sweater

Two basic skirts (flared or straight)

One classic pair of pants

Two solid colour blouses

One pinstripe blouse

Two shirts

One shirtdress (to wear with a jacket)

One classic dress (basic colour to accessorize and change the look)

One all weather coat

When is the last time you heard someone say “I don’t have anything to wear?” If this sounds like you, perhaps it’s time for a change.

C ommon sense
H ave fun with colour
A lign your style with your personality
N ever be afraid to try a new look
G et a magazine to see what’s current and in style
E mbrace your Silhouette and select colours that compliment your skin tone

Spending lots of money on a new wardrobe does not ensure success – planning beforehand does! An adequate and appropriate wardrobe is never completely finished. It changes as often as you do including changes in your personal and professional life.

So, what does your wardrobe say about you?

What colour is your self esteem? What guides your basic sense of self worth?

These are important questions because poor self esteem will colour your entire life. A healthy self esteem will provide you with a good self image. You may wonder how this is achieved over a lifetime… so let me explain.

There are three principal ‘life skills’ in constant development which build your reserves of self esteem. Indicators of a healthy self-esteem are shown in how you behave, the image you hold of yourself, and how you feel about your self.

Assessment of the following three life skills enables identification of your overall state of self-esteem:

Self Awareness – Are you grounded in the present, tuning in with yourself learning from the past to see the possibilities building your future? First and foremost you must learn to understand yourself by way of recognizing and expressing your emotions through self-awareness when building your self esteem and Red is the colour of passion allowing you to survive and thrive in self-awareness.

Self Acceptance – Do you believe in yourself, living by a moral set of standards, a ‘life compass’ that guides and shapes what you value about life and yourself? Self-acceptance allows you to develop a positive clear self-image. Orange is the colour of self-respect allowing you to be courageously free and able to relate to others. Yellow the colour of self-worth, feeds your ego and intellect. The yellow ‘center’ of your emotions represents your ability to form a ‘self,’ your needs, your wants and desires. Holding a positive thought in your mind long enough brings about change. Green, the colour of self-love, allows you to forgive and love unconditionally demonstrating the power of love is learning to love oneself.

Self Reliance – Do you use your personal power to rely on yourself becoming the person you want to be pursuing your dreams and setting goals? Blue the colour of self-expression, communication, and intuition, is your inner voice that speaks volumes when you trust your intuition. Indigo, the colour of self-responsibility is about owning your life and living well. Violet, the colour of self-knowledge and personal growth, guides you toward raising your consciousness and encouraging Peace.

In the light of self awareness, self acceptance and self reliance there is a process that provides a framework for building and maintaining a sense of self worth and personal power. Self esteem is developed over time as you actively look for – and find – ways to nurture and feed yourself, all the while collecting knowledge and wisdom throughout your life.

You are what you believe yourself to be. Your actions work in harmony with your feelings. And as you move through the different phases of your life you will learn to recognize and manage your emotions balancing your needs to develop an independent self. And it all begins with understanding what colours your self esteem.
