What Colours Your Self-Esteem?
What colour is your self esteem? What guides your basic sense of self worth?
These are important questions because poor self esteem will colour your entire life. A healthy self esteem will provide you with a good self image. You may wonder how this is achieved over a lifetime… so let me explain.
There are three principal ‘life skills’ in constant development which build your reserves of self esteem. Indicators of a healthy self-esteem are shown in how you behave, the image you hold of yourself, and how you feel about your self.
Assessment of the following three life skills enables identification of your overall state of self-esteem:
- Self Awareness – Are you grounded in the present, tuning in with yourself learning from the past to see the possibilities building your future? First and foremost you must learn to understand yourself by way of recognizing and expressing your emotions through self-awareness when building your self esteem and Red is the colour of passion allowing you to survive and thrive in self-awareness.
- Self Acceptance – Do you believe in yourself, living by a moral set of standards, a ‘life compass’ that guides and shapes what you value about life and yourself? Self-acceptance allows you to develop a positive clear self-image. Orange is the colour of self-respect allowing you to be courageously free and able to relate to others. Yellow the colour of self-worth, feeds your ego and intellect. The yellow ‘center’ of your emotions represents your ability to form a ‘self,’ your needs, your wants and desires. Holding a positive thought in your mind long enough brings about change. Green, the colour of self-love, allows you to forgive and love unconditionally demonstrating the power of love is learning to love oneself.
- Self Reliance – Do you use your personal power to rely on yourself becoming the person you want to be pursuing your dreams and setting goals? Blue the colour of self-expression, communication, and intuition, is your inner voice that speaks volumes when you trust your intuition. Indigo, the colour of self-responsibility is about owning your life and living well. Violet, the colour of self-knowledge and personal growth, guides you toward raising your consciousness and encouraging Peace.
In the light of self awareness, self acceptance and self reliance there is a process that provides a framework for building and maintaining a sense of self worth and personal power. Self esteem is developed over time as you actively look for – and find – ways to nurture and feed yourself, all the while collecting knowledge and wisdom throughout your life.
You are what you believe yourself to be. Your actions work in harmony with your feelings. And as you move through the different phases of your life you will learn to recognize and manage your emotions balancing your needs to develop an independent self. And it all begins with understanding what colours your self esteem.
